Reciprocate Akuffo-Addo’s Example To Pay Cocoa Farmers – Minority Tells Pres. Mahama.

The Minority in Parliament has slammed the government over the cocoa price reduction following a price cut on the international market to follow Akufo-Addo’s example to save the farmers
During an engagement with cocoa farmers in the Dormaa Central and Dormaa West in the Bono Region, the Minority in Parliament accuses the government for unfair treatment of the cocoa farmers following the cocoa price reduction.
The leader of the group, ANNOH DOMPREH FRANK, the Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, says the government should use part of the accumulated interest and savings from the previous cocoa seasons to pay the farmers the agreed price just as Akufo-Addo did when there was a price reduction on the international market during his time.
The former Executive Director of COCOBOD and MP for Offinso South challenges the NDC over claims that the previous government takes syndicated loans with cocoa and fails to repay them, contributing to the reduction in cocoa prices.
DR. ISAAC YAW OPOKU says all governments since 1993 access such loans, and the NPP also takes them but pays off the debt before leaving office.
Some of the farmers commend the Minority for the assurance to offer better prices when they assume power in 2028. However, they express disappointment in the government for failing to honour its promises to cocoa farmers.
End.
