CEA Adopts Ankaful Prison As Flagship Learning Hub.

The Complementary Education Agency (CEA), formely Non-Formal Education Division under the Ghana Education Service (GES), alongside its Central Regional Directorate CEA, paid a courtesy visit to Ankaful Maximum Security Prison,

The team explored partnership opportunities to advance complementary and non-formal education within the facility.

According to CEA, the initiative aims to strengthen educational access for inmates at the basic level,enhance vocational skill, and aslo preparing them to sit for next year’s BECE while enhancing rehabilitation through structured learning programs.

Addressing the press, CEA’s Executive Director, Hon. Dr. Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah, pledged to adopt the Ankaful Maximum Prison Learning Center as an agency project. He committed to upgrading education infrastructure and supporting inmate learners.

The Agency donated learning materials, including exercise books and whiteboard markers.

Central Regional Prisons Commander in charge of Ankaful, DDP Joseph Asabre, expressed gratitude for the commitment to turn the facility into Ghana’s premier prison learning center.

He appealed for inmates to be included in the national school feeding program as motivation and urged completion of the second phase of the prison project, including a school library.

Assemblyman for Ankaful Electoral Area, Hon. Samuel Owusu Boahen who also a rep for Agency at Ankaful Maximum Prisond Learning Center expressed disappointment over inmates’ absence from this year’s BECE due to registration fees.

He noted their consistent participation in past exams and appealed to the public for support.

The delegations was also treated to an exhibition of detergents, other items produced by inmates learners as part of their vocational training.
