Nungua Residents Block Launch Of Co-operative Mining, Allege Galamsey.

Residents of Ghana Nunguain in the Jomoro municipality of Ghana’s Western have stopped the launching of a co-operative mining project in their community, alleging that it is galamsey.

The ministry of lands and Natural Resources was scheduled to the Jomoro responsible cooperative mining as a means of creating jobs for the youth in the area.

Some Residents of Ghana Nugua and Cocoa Town blocked the event because they fear the proposed co-operative mining is a front for illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Community members argue that proper environmental and community consultations were not done before the launch was scheduled.

The communications director of the minerals commission Della Edem who was at the site speaking in an interview with our reporter Nana fynn explained that
after engaging the residents it came to their notice that some illegal mining company is undertaking illegal mining at the area hence the fear of the residents.

He added that the he quickly called on the national security and the police to come to vandalize the site while the owner of the site has been placed on the police wanted list
