Afigya Kwabre South Two Persons Arrested For Suspected Arson Attack On MCE’s Official Residence

The Afigya Kwabre South Police Command have arrested two persons suspected to be actively involved in the arson attack on the official bungalow of the Afigya Kwabre South MCE, Hon. Patricia Pearl Ankrah.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday (21 June), comes after Ankrah faced open rejection from local supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), following her endorsement by President John Mahama.

The Ghana Police Service is investigating suspected arson after the official residence of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Afigya Kwabre South, Pearl Ankrah, was set ablaze over the weekend.

A footage widely shared online shows flames engulfed parts of the house late Saturday night.

Firefighters were called to the scene, but not before extensive damage was done to the property. No casualties were reported.

Security sources told Atinka News that at least two suspects are in custody as preliminary investigations point to deliberate arson.

Ankrah, who was not at home at the time, has declined to comment publicly. However, a source close to her said she was “shaken but unharmed.”

The MCE’s nomination by the President had sparked controversy among some local party members, who accused her of failing to build bridges with grassroots supporters.

A faction of the constituency openly protested her appointment two months ago threatening to burn the assembly block.

Political tensions have been rising in parts of the Ashanti Region in recent months, since the NDC took over power.

PLAY BYTE…….Let’s listen to one of the suspects, in an earlier press conference before Pearl Ankrah’s nomination.
