Assin North NDC Accuses NSS Director Of Receiving Salary For 8 Months Without Work, Demands Probe

The Assin North branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the District Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS),
Mr. Stephen Asamoah, of receiving salaries for eight consecutive months without reporting to work or fulfilling his official duties.
According to the NDC, Mr. Asamoah’s unexplained absence has rendered the NSS office in the district largely ineffective.
The party claims he failed to submit any formal leave request or communicate with relevant authorities, yet continues to benefit from public funds.
In a press release signed by the Deputy Communications Officer, Mr. Apaah Martin, dated August 10, 2025, the party stated:
“We have received credible reports indicating that since his appointment, Mr. Stephen Asamoah has neither reported to work nor performed any official duty, yet continues to receive a government salary.
This raises serious concerns about oversight and accountability within the NSS.”
As a result, the NDC is demanding the following actions:
1. A forensic audit of Mr. Asamoah’s salary payments and attendance records.
2. Disciplinary action against any NSS officials found complicit in authorizing or processing these payments.
He reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to transparency and accountability under the leadership of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, stressing that negligence and misuse of public funds will not be tolerated.
When contacted by the Rich FM News Desk, Mr. Stephen Asamoah denied receiving salaries during his absence.
He explained that he has been unwell since the beginning of the year and is undergoing treatment at various hospitals and alternative medical centers.
Asked whether the authorities at the district or regional level were officially notified of his medical condition, Mr. Asamoah responded that most members of the directorate were aware, including the former NSS Regional Director.
