Five (5) Persons Injured After Security Officers Clash With Residents Of Bonteso Over Alleged Illegal Mining

A violent confrontation between the IGP’s Anti-Illegal Mining Task Force and residents of Bonteso in the Amansie West District has left five residents injured and arrest of assembly member with two others.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, when the task force attempted to seize an excavator allegedly used for illegal mining activities.

The Unit Committee Secretary for the community, Mr. Samuel Manu, claims the security officers fired gunshots at residents, hitting five people, and also damaged two transformers serving the community.

Some of the residents are calling on the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the situation to resolve the ongoing dispute between the community and security officers ³.

However, the District Chief Executive for Amansie West District, Hon. Prince Manu Morrison,in his account revealed that, the residents were using the excavator to excavate sand from an old mining site for construction purposes, which the security officers mistakenly believed was an illegal mining activity.

The arrested individuals include Assembly Member Patrick Asare, Akwesi Amponsah, Osei Vasco, and Owusu Alexander.

The suspects are being held at the Manso Adubia Police Station and are expected to be transported to Accra for further investigation and prosecution.
