Accountability in Action Upholding Transparency In Public Institutions

The Public Accounts Committee continued its hearings with key public institutions, including the University of Ghana, the University of Professional Studies, and the University of Education, as they appeared before us to account for their use of public funds.

During the session, I questioned the leadership of the University of Education on their failure to use the Ghana Electronic Procurement System (GHANEPS), as noted by the Auditor-General.

It was observed that all procurements of goods and services were conducted outside the system, a clear deviation from the established public financial management and procurement laws.

Such non-compliance undermines transparency, breeds inefficiency, and opens the door to possible abuse of public resources.

The electronic procurement system was designed to enhance accountability, reduce corruption risks, and ensure value for money in all government transactions.

Any disregard for it is, therefore, a matter of serious concern.

Let us be clear: public resources must be managed with integrity, transparency, and strict adherence to the law.

The Ghanaian taxpayer deserves nothing less.

As representatives of the people, our responsibility remains unwavering:

✅ To interrogate the facts without fear or favour

✅ To insist on accountability across all public institutions

✅ To safeguard the public purse with vigilance and integrity

We will continue to follow this matter to its logical conclusion.

No institution or individual has the right to treat state resources with laxity or disregard for due process. Ghana deserves better, and we remain resolute in demanding exactly that.

Signed

Hon. Geoffrey Kini

Member of Parliament, Nkwanta South Constituency.
