Assin South Peacemaking Turns Bloody As Woman Nearly Loses Fingers In Lovers’ Quarrel

A 28-year-old woman, Janet Addison, is battling for her life after sustaining deep machete wounds while attempting to intervene in a domestic altercation between a woman named Obaa Yaa and her baby’s daddy at Assin Bepokokoo in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. According to eyewitnesses, Janet’s attempt to calm tensions between the quarreling couple enraged Efua, the sister of Obaa Yaa, who confronted her for “interfering” in their family issue.

A verbal exchange quickly escalated. Efua, who is currently on the run, allegedly rushed home, retrieved a sharpened machete, and attacked Janet.

In a shocking twist, Efua’s mother reportedly held Janet and tore her clothes during the attack, worsening the victim’s vulnerability.

Janet tried to defend herself with a stick but slipped and fell.

As Efua allegedly swung the machete aimed at her head, Janet used her left hand to block the strikes, resulting in deep cuts and the near loss of her fingers.

She was rushed to the Assin Anyinabrim Health Center for medical attention but was later referred to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu due to the seriousness of her injuries.

From her hospital bed, Janet told Rich FM News that her family and Efua’s have a history of unresolved conflict, which she believes motivated the violent attack.

“I don’t understand why they would do this to me just for trying to bring peace,” she lamented, calling for justice.

Confirming the incident, Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Bashiru Amankrah, said he has urged the victim to file an official complaint.

However, as of the time of filing this report, no formal complaint had been lodged with the police.
