Appeal For Speedy Justice Judge Afia Serwaa Asare Bortwe Urges Swift Case Resolution

Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Bortwe, a Court of Appeal judge, has called on police, judges, lawyers, and registrars to ensure cases brought to court are handled promptly and concluded within two months.

She expressed concern over the number of people in prison with unsettled cases, emphasizing that justice delayed is justice denied.

Speaking during a visit to the Kumasi Central Prisons as part of the Justice for All Program, Her Lordship stressed the need for efficient case management.

The visit resulted in tackling 41 cases, with 15 people granted bail and 4 discharged. However, she noted challenges, including two discharged individuals still in prison due to unsigned documents.

The Justice for All Program, an initiative of the Chief Justice, aims to decongest prisons by selecting inmates eligible for clemency.

Justice Afia Serwaa Asaee Bortwe urged all stakeholders to play their part in reducing prison overcrowding.

ADP Courage Atsem, 2nd in command of Kumasi Central Prisons, welcomed the initiative, saying it will significantly help decongest the facility.
