Chief Calls For Desilting Of Choked Gutters To Prevent Flooding

The Chief of Akyem Aduasena has made a passionate appeal for the urgent desilting of choked gutters and rivers in the community as a measure to prevent flooding, especially during the rainy season.

The Chief of Akyem Aduasena, Nana Bonua Bankro, has appealed to the District Chief Executive of Birim North, Hakeem Antwi Abdul, to take immediate steps to desilt all choked gutters and rivers within the community to help reduce the risk of flooding.

According to Nana Bonua Bankro, the poor state of drainage systems in Akyem Aduasena has become a major concern to residents, as several gutters and rivers have been blocked with silt, refuse, and other waste materials.

He explained that these conditions cause water to overflow whenever it rains, leading to flooding that destroys property, disrupts daily activities, and poses serious health risks to the people.

The Chief made this appeal during a sanitation exercise organised by the Birim North District Assembly at Akyem Aduasena and Hweakwae.

The exercise formed part of efforts by the Assembly to promote cleanliness and encourage residents to take responsibility for maintaining a healthy environment.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Birim North, Hakeem Antwi Abdul, assured the chiefs and people of the district of the assembly’s commitment to improving sanitation.

He said the Assembly would work closely with traditional authorities to enforce sanitation by-laws and would not hesitate to sanction individuals who fail to participate in communal labour activities aimed at improving environmental cleanliness.

He emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility and called on residents to support the Assembly’s efforts by actively taking part in sanitation exercises.

End.
