Fear Grips Teberebie Residents Over Alleged Blasting Effects Of AngloGold Ashanti Aduaprim Mine.

Residents of Teberebie in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region are calling on the government to urgently intervene over what they describe as life-threatening blasting activities by AngloGold Ashanti.

According to the residents, repeated complaints have been lodged with the mining company for nearly five years, demanding either relocation or full resettlement of the community due to the devastating impact of the blasting operations.

However, they claim the company has ignored their appeals and continues its activities, putting lives and properties at risk.

A visit by our News team to the community revealed extensive damage allegedly linked to the blasting activities.

Several houses have developed deep cracks, while many residents say their television sets and other electronic appliances have become damaged and non-functional.

Residents also complained about the state of their water supply, alleging contamination that has resulted in frequent skin rashes and health complications.

Some claim they are forced to visit health facilities at least twice every month for treatment after using the water.

They further described living in constant fear, saying roofs can collapse unexpectedly due to the intensity of the explosions from the mine.

Speaking to our News team, Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Bernard Obeng, together with some opinion leaders, accused the company of failing to honour several resettlement promises made to the community over the years.

According to them, multiple engagements and proposed relocation plans have yielded no results, leaving residents frustrated and hopeless.

They are now appealing to the government and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to immediately halt the blasting operations of AngloGold Ashanti and ensure the resettlement of Teberebie residents before disaster strikes.

The leaders warned that if urgent action is not taken, the country could one day wake up to tragic headlines that the blasting activities of the mining company have wiped out the entire Teberebie community.
