Accra Floods Should Serve As A Notice, We Need To Change Our Attitude Towards The Environment……Okyenhene.

Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin says the recent flooding in Accra must serve as a warning to Ghanaians.

He said that though there is a genuine planning gap and inadequate disaster prevention methods, the human attitude towards the environment remains a fundamental problem for safeguarding the environment.

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin indicated that, the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in gutters, rivers, and unapproved places, the building on waterways, choke rivers, and unclear water ways among indiscriminate human activities towards the environment remains a major contributor to our problem.

Speaking at the 2026 Kyebi Ohum Festival held over the weekend in Kyebi under the Theme: ‘Rejuvenating our customs for sustainability and Natures Connection’ the Okyenhene called on Ghanaians to have a change of attitude and reconnect with nature.

He expressed concern over the increasing drug and substance abuse in the country, calling for an urgent enforcement of the laws governing the sales of alcohol and smoke.

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin urged the Ghana Police Service and the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblys to arrest and prosecute Drinking Bar owners and sales point selling alcohol to children under 18

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin advised the government and their officials to avoid intermeddling in chieftaincy affairs since it doesn’t enhance the autonomy of the chieftaincy institution.

The Chief of Staff Mr. Julius Debrah commended Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin for his bold leadership and assured him of government support.

He indicated government commitment towards investing in agriculture and pleaded with Osagyefo to liaise with Nananom and ensure that lands are made available for agriculture purposes.

The 2026 Kyebi Ohum Festival was colourful. It brought together notable political figures from both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party and other government officials.
