Our Road Is Costing Us Heavily On High Transport Fares And Post Harvest Losses- Traders And Farmers At Ntomen Appeals To Govt.

Residents, Traders and Farmers at Ntomen, a farming community in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region is calling on the government to construct their road Network in the area to alleviate them from incurring high debt on their business.

Kwahu Ntomen near Kwahu Bepong in the Kwahu South Municipality has her name represented in terms of gathering food into the food basket of the country, but they are leaving around bad road Network exposing them to higher health implications in the area.

According to farmers in the area, their farm produce are sometimes left to rot due to unavailability of vehicle to convey their produce to Bepong market because of their bad road network, Traders who spoke with Oheneba Siaw lamented how much they spent on transporting their goods to market.

According to them, the road network which was under construction in Nana Akufo Addo’s regime stalled immediately the change of government is imposing high cost of trading in the area, therefore calling for immediate intervention on the road.

On his part, Hon. Jacob Kumi Dwamena , a former Assembly Member under who’s regime saw the construction and reshaping of the road said, the road was given to a contractor about 2-3 years ago on a promise of putting bitumen on it for commuters which they all saw the construction being steadily progressing awhile road users can use 15 minutes to reach Kwahu Bepong which was initially taken about an hour to do so was halted immediately the change of government.

Commenting on the project which was inherited, Hon.David Effah Osei Bonsu ( Hon. Ato Plans), the Municipal Chief Executive of Kwahu South said, the construction was in 2 phases which the first phase the resurfacing and reshaping which the contractor did that, but the 2nd phase which comes with convert and bitumen is what has left with the contractor to do, but his checks indicates that there has not been given financial clearance to do so, which he is working on it to have the Minister of Finance to sanction for the 2nd phase of the project.
