Akwansa Kokodo Receives 30 Bicycles To Ease Schoolchildren’s Transport Burden.

The people of Akwansa Kokodo in the Ekumfi District of Ghana’s Central Region have received a significant boost to education and youth development following the presentation of 30 bicycles and assorted sporting equipment to support schoolchildren in the community.
The initiative, spearheaded by Boys and Girls Club Ghana in collaboration with the Ksam Essilfie Medical Foundation, was undertaken on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Akwansa Kokodo Community Centre.
The donation, which forms part of efforts to alleviate transportation challenges confronting schoolchildren in deprived and hard-to-reach communities, also included sporting equipment such as football-related items, table tennis balls, bumps and other materials intended to promote physical education and recreational activities among the youth.
Speaking at the ceremony, the National Director of Boys and Girls Club Ghana, Mr. Stephen Osei, explained that the bicycles were specifically intended to ease the burden on students who have to travel considerable distances to access education.
According to him, some children in the community endure long and difficult journeys to school, a situation that can adversely affect punctuality, attendance and, ultimately, their educational progress.
He said the bicycles would therefore provide a practical means of transportation and help remove one of the barriers that confronts children in their quest for education.
Mr. Osei further highlighted the organisation’s broader commitment to community development, noting that Boys and Girls Club Ghana has over the years supported individuals through educational assistance, university support, employment opportunities and medical interventions.
He stressed that the organisation remains committed to identifying communities and individuals whose circumstances require meaningful intervention and extending support to them.
The District Director of Education, Madam Mary Kafui Ahlijah , commended Boys and Girls Club Ghana and the philanthropists whose generosity made the donation possible.
She observed that transportation remains a significant challenge for some pupils and students, explaining that children sometimes return home and complain about their inability to attend school because their parents or guardians are unable to provide money for transportation.
She expressed the hope that the bicycles would help eliminate some of these excuses and encourage beneficiaries to attend school regularly.
Madam Mary Kafui Ahlijah emphasised that education transcends the four walls of the classroom, and therefore called for sustained interventions that address the broader needs of learners.
She particularly appealed to the organisers and philanthropists to consider extending similar support to Senior High School students, indicating that transportation difficulties are also prevalent among students at that level.
The Omankrado of Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo, Nana Ekow Essuman VII, expressed profound gratitude to the philanthropists , Nathaniel, Jeremy and Patrick ,for their generosity and selfless contribution towards the development of the community.
He noted that interventions of such magnitude are often concentrated in larger communities and urban centres, making the decision to extend the gesture to Akwansa Kokodo particularly significant.
Nana Ekow Essuman VII jokingly remarked that, considering the philanthropists’ commitment to the welfare of the community, one of them could even be considered for the traditional position of Mpuntuhen, should he be willing to accept the honour.
Beyond the appreciation, the Omankrado used the occasion to draw attention to another pressing challenge confronting the community, the shortage of teachers in the local school.
He appealed to the Ekumfi District Education Directorate to urgently consider posting additional teachers to the school, stressing that the inadequate number of teachers has become a major concern for the community and could undermine effective teaching and learning.
The colourful ceremony brought together Nananom of Akwansa Kokodo, officials from the Ekumfi Education Directorate, representatives of Boys and Girls Club Ghana, philanthropists, journalists from various media houses, community leaders and residents.
The atmosphere was one of gratitude, celebration and optimism as residents welcomed the intervention and expressed hope that it would translate into improved school attendance and better educational outcomes for children in the community.
