NPP Begins National Thank You Tour To Heal Divisions And Regain Momentum After 2024 Defeat

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the process of rebuilding after its defeat in the 2024 general elections, has embarked on a National Thank You Tour, which commenced today in the Western Region.
Following its poor electoral performance, the party fractured into various factions, with blame apportioned to multiple factors. This division led to the formation of the Professor Mike Oquaye Committee, tasked with investigating the reasons behind the loss.
With the committee’s work completed, the Thank You Tour aims to revive the party’s grassroots base as the NPP sets its sights on regaining power in the next elections.
The first stop of the National Thank You Tour was in the Western Region — a significant battleground where the NPP lost the presidential contest and retained only two parliamentary seats.
Recognizing the urgent need to restore unity and address apathy, the tour seeks to bring all members back on board and heal lingering divisions.
The NPP’s 2024 Flagbearer and former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, attributed their electoral defeat to internal discontent among party members and sympathizers.
He also cited several other challenges, including the rising cost of living, the perception of arrogance in government, mishandling of the galamsey fight, and debt restructuring difficulties.
General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, addressing the gathering, refrained from disclosing full details of the Professor Mike Oquaye Committee’s findings, stressing that the report was not intended for public consumption.
He, however, highlighted key points, assuring the grassroots that the party leadership is taking the findings seriously and will act accordingly.
Meanwhile, former Assin Central MP and prominent NPP stalwart, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, called on the party’s National Executives to grant amnesty to all suspended members, notably Paul Afoko and Alan Kyerematen.
Agyapong emphasized that alienating key figures and their supporters contributed to the party’s defeat, and stressed that reconciliation is critical for the NPP’s future success.
