Kumasi To Become Energy Industrial Hub With 1000MW Project – Energy Minister Assures.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor has pledged to stabilize power supply in the Ashanti Region and position Kumasi as a major energy industrial hub.
Speaking during an engagement with staff and workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as part of his tour of parts of the region, the minister announced that plans are underway to establish a 1000-megawatt power plant in Kumasi in the near future.
“Kumasi is becoming an energy industrial hub, and very soon the city will host a 1000MW power plant,” he said.
Addressing claims that the NDC government is neglecting the region due to electoral results, Mr. Jinapor dismissed the suggestion as false.
“People are saying the NDC didn’t get enough votes here, so we’re not keeping the lights on or neglecting development. That is not true. Kumasi is not the stronghold of the NDC, yet we secured 50% of the vote in the Ashanti Region during last election,” he stated.
He added that the NDC government remains committed to developing the Ashanti Region, noting its strong contribution to national tax revenue as a key reason for prioritizing projects there.
The visit formed part of efforts to assess ECG’s operations and discuss measures to improve service delivery and reduce outages across the region.
