COCOBOD Relaunches Free Fertilizer Programme To Reset Cocoa Sector, Boost Farmer Incomes.

Government has relaunched the Free Fertilizer and Agro-Input Programme for cocoa farmers in a major intervention aimed at restoring productivity, improving farmer incomes, and resetting Ghana’s cocoa sector.

The relaunch, held at Sefwi Wiawso, was on the theme: “Cocoa Sector Reset: Free Fertilizer for Increased Productivity and Improved Farmer Income.”

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Dr. Randy Abbey, described the intervention as a decisive declaration that government, through COCOBOD, is fully committed to relieving the financial burdens of hardworking farmers, restoring maximum productivity to the soil, and securing the golden future of the cocoa sector.

He said the policy shift from 50 percent subsidy to free fertilizer marks a total reset of how government supports cocoa farmers.

In his remarks, the Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, said the occasion was more than the commencement of an input distribution exercise.

He described it as the fulfilment of an important policy commitment and a practical demonstration of collective determination to restore productivity, strengthen the industry and improve livelihoods.
