Two-Year-Old Child Found Dead by Hunters After Missing For Three Days.

A two-and-a-half-year-old boy who went missing at Assin Awiafitaamu near Ketukrom in the Assin North District of the Central Region has been found dead in a bush after an intensive three-day search.
The deceased, identified as Nana Yaw, reportedly went missing on May 13, 2026. The case was formally reported to the Police on May 15 by the child’s grandfather, Godwin Tettey Amanor.
According to the complainant, the child had been left in the care of his two siblings by their grandmother while she went to the farm. However, upon her return, Nana Yaw could not be found.
Mr. Amanor said family members and residents immediately organised a search party and made announcements through local information centres in surrounding communities, but all efforts to trace the child proved futile.
He further stated that on May 17, 2026, at about 4:39 p.m., hunters on a hunting expedition discovered the body of the missing child under some bushes and alerted the family, who subsequently informed the Police.
A police team led by the District Crime Officer, ASP Charles Akugre, proceeded to the scene at Assin Awiafitaamu to commence investigations.
Police sources disclosed that the body was found about two kilometres from where the child was reported missing and approximately half a kilometre from a nearby cottage belonging to a man identified as Papa Magye.
The body was found lying in a supine position, dressed in an orange T-shirt and violet trousers. Police inspection revealed bruises on the head and other parts of the body.
A pair of rubber sandals believed to belong to the child was also found about three feet away from the body.
Preliminary police assessment suggested that the child might have died in the late hours of May 16, 2026, as the body had already begun decomposing.
Photographs of the scene were taken after which the body was conveyed to the Assin Foso St. Francis Xavier Hospital, where medical officers confirmed the child dead.
The body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Investigations further established that the hunters, who are residents of Assin Kushea, discovered the body while pursuing game with their dogs near Papa Magye’s village.
The hunters reportedly raised an alarm, leading to the complainant being informed before the matter was officially reported to the Police.
Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing pending the outcome of the autopsy report.
