Ashiaman Police Foil Attempt To Smuggle Ilegal Drugs Into Cells Through Pie And Yogurt.

Police in Ashaiman have intercepted an attempt to smuggle suspected illegal drugs into police cells concealed in food items intended for a detainee.

The incident occurred on May 11, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m. at the Ashaiman Police Station when a 21-year-old unemployed woman, identified as Anita Amoah, reportedly brought a pie and yogurt to the station for a suspect, Richard Acquah, who was in police custody.

According to police sources, officers stationed at the charge office became suspicious during a routine inspection of the food items and discovered four tablets of suspected narcotic substances, identified as 250g tablets of “Timaking,” popularly known as “Red,” hidden inside the pie.

Preliminary investigations revealed that suspect Richard Acquah allegedly contacted Anita Amoah from inside the cells using a Samsung keypad mobile phone he had reportedly smuggled into custody.

Police say the suspect concealed the phone and SIM card in a bandana before using it to instruct Anita Amoah to hide the drugs inside the pie and deliver them together with the yogurt in a polythene bag to the station.

During interrogation, Anita Amoah reportedly admitted delivering the items to the police station on the request of Richard Acquah.

Richard Acquah also allegedly confessed to requesting the drugs for personal use while in detention.

The pie containing the four suspected narcotic tablets has since been retained by police as evidence for investigations.

Police further disclosed that caution statements have been obtained from both suspects as part of ongoing investigations into the case.

Meanwhile, Anita Amoah has been arraigned before the Ashaiman District Court on the charge of smuggling unauthorized items to a prisoner.

She was remanded into police custody and ordered to reappear before the court on May 20, 2026.

Police say investigations are still ongoing, and both suspects are expected to face further legal action upon completion of the probe.

District Crime Officer, Inspector Clement Amoah, is leading investigations into the matter.
