Mudslide Triggers Fire At Bosomtwi Sam Fishing Harbour, Two Cars Burnt.

Two cars and several other properties were destroyed after a fire broke out at the Bosomtwi Sam Fishing Harbour following a heavy downpour on Sunday.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident was triggered by a mudslide caused by the rains. The mudslide reportedly struck a high-tension electricity cable, causing it to snap.

The fallen cable is said to have landed on a tank containing premix fuel, instantly igniting a fire that rapidly spread across the area.

The blaze destroyed two vehicles and other valuable properties before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.

The Manager of the Bosomtwi Sam Fishing Harbour, Mr. Henry Papa Opong, who narrated the incident, said the fire was caused by a mudslide that hit the high-tension cable, which subsequently fell onto a fuel tank and sparked the inferno.

In response to the incident, the Western Regional Minister directed that all persons living and operating around the affected slope be relocated to pave the way for excavation works aimed at preventing future occurrences.

The Director of the Takoradi Port, Captain Quayson, on his part, assured that management would assess the situation and consider measures to reinforce and retain the affected wall to avert similar incidents in the future.
