We Are Equal” – Ashanti Women Demand Right To Multiple Husbands As Men Cheat.

Some Ghanaian women in the Ashanti Region have revealed that the rate at which Ghanaian men are cheating on them is really alarming, and in view of this, they are also seeking for multiple husbands.

According to them, men often marry two and three wives, which to them is cheating.

They disclosed that a woman can start life with a man without anything, but when they get money and property, the man will start cheating and want to marry another wife.

They argued that women are equal to men, and a man is not so different from a woman.

They therefore insisted that if a man can marry multiple wives, a woman should also be allowed to marry multiple husbands.

The women, who spoke during an interview, said they are tired of suffering in silence while men enjoy the freedom to bring in second and third wives without considering the feelings of their first wives.

One of them said, “We suffer with the men from nothing, we build together, we struggle together, but immediately money comes, they forget us and go and marry another woman. That is cheating.”

Another added that if society accepts polygamy for men, then polyandry for women should also be accepted, because what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.

They further stated that some men do not only marry additional wives, but also keep girlfriends outside, a situation they described as very painful and disrespectful.

They called on traditional leaders, pastors and lawmakers to look into the matter and give women the same freedom men enjoy in marriage.

Some of them also appealed to men to remain faithful to one wife if they cannot accept their wives marrying multiple husbands.

The issue has since sparked heated debate in the Ashanti Region, with some people supporting the women, while others argue that culture and religion do not allow a woman to marry more than one husband.
