One person has been critically injured after three cars crashed into one Aboboya at Atafoa in the Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region.
The accident occurred after three cars collided, while one Aboboya was also damaged in the process.
A Toyota Corolla with registration number ER 350-15 and a charcoal truck loaded with charcoal with registration number 6796-V had a head-on collision.
The Toyota Corolla was on a high speed with serious overtaken and it moved from it lane and collided with the truck.
The impact of the collision extended to a nearby vehicle and also affected a tricycle, popularly known as Aboboya, and a Highlander car.
Eyewitnesses said the crash was so severe that the Toyota Corolla was badly damaged, leaving its driver trapped inside for some minutes before he was rescued by passers-by and rushed to hospital.
As at the time of filing this report, the road had been blocked by the accident, causing heavy traffic on the Atafoa stretch, with drivers and commuters stranded for hours.
An eyewitness, Mr. Morgan Annor and Mr Alfred Agyei disclosed that this is not the first time an accident has occurred on this stretch.
He said over-speeding and the absence of speed ramps on the road are the major causes of the frequent accidents.
According to him, several lives have been lost and many properties destroyed on the same stretch, yet authorities have failed to act.
He therefore appealed to the Ghana Highways Authority, the Bantama Member of Parliament and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to fix speed ramps and road signs on the stretch to prevent any future disaster.
He also called on drivers to be cautious and reduce their speed when approaching the Atafoa junction to save lives and property.
