EPA Shuts Down Gan He Mining Resource Development Company Ltd Processing Plant Over Regulatory Breaches.

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), led by Mr. Harrison Harron Afful, Deputy Director in charge of Mining Operations at the EPA Headquarters, on Tuesday, May 27, 2026, conducted an inspection of the operations of Gan, he Mining Resource Development Company Ltd at Abreshia in the Wassa East Municipality of the Western Region.

The inspection followed an earlier notice issued by the EPA on January 27, 2026, directing the company to address several environmental and operational concerns within a three-month period.

However, during the inspection, the EPA task force observed that the concerns raised had not been addressed.

According to the Authority, the situation had worsened, with little or no effort made by the company to comply with the directives outlined in the initial notice.

Briefing the media after the exercise, Mr. Harrison Harron Afful stated that Gan He Mining Resource Development Company Ltd had failed to comply with the conditions and regulations governing its mining permit in Ghana.

He explained that the company’s continuous disregard for environmental and operational regulations left the EPA with no option but to take immediate enforcement action.

As a result, the EPA ordered the immediate shutdown of the company’s processing plant and underground water dewatering operations until further notice.

The EPA reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all mining firms operating in Ghana strictly adhere to environmental safety standards and regulatory requirements.
