Fijai Taxi Station Drivers Express Serious Concerns Over The Dilapidated Effia -Nkwanta Regional Hospital Emergency Road.

Commercial taxi drivers operating from Fijai Taxi Station, who ply the route from Fijai Junction to Sekondi, are raising urgent concerns about their daily operations.

They rely heavily on the critical ‘Emergency Road’ connecting Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital and Fijai Community (Junction).

Their concerns are justified by the deplorable condition of the road segment between Fijai Junction and the hospital.

They are unsurprised that the contractor who previously handled part of this road project abandoned the site.

Asabea Engineering And Construction Company Limited, a major firm involved in various road projects across the Western Region, has halted work on this road entirely.

Benjamin Bray “Great Pablo”, our reporter, spoke with several Fijai Taxi Drivers, who confirmed that driving on the deteriorated Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital Emergency Road causes extensive vehicle damage. Vehicles often end up at mechanical shops, incurring high repair costs.

They have already alerted the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Urban Roads Department, with assurances that Drip Machines would be deployed to make the road passable for all users including commercial, private, ambulance, and Fire Service vehicles, but their pleas have gone unheeded.

One Fijai Taxi Driver recounted that authorities once persuaded them to operate from a different location, but they now endure the hazards of this severely damaged emergency road.

Expressing their frustration, another driver lamented that, despite their votes, they see no benefits from political leaders.

They emphasised that if leaders cannot create jobs, they must at least ensure proper road maintenance.

They demand that the government urgently review the state of the Emergency Road at Fijai, which is vital for Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the Western Regional Ghana Fire Service, and the Western Regional Centre for National Culture.

Meanwhile, other Fijai Junction Taxi Drivers interviewed by our Western Regional Reporter, Benjamin Bray – “Great Pablo,” confirmed they plan to block the damaged section of the emergency road and use the slightly better-maintained side.

They highlighted that the poor condition of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital Emergency Road continues to jeopardise the safety of pregnant women and seriously ill individuals visiting the hospital.

They criticised authorities in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, including the Western Regional Minister, MPs, Metropolitan Chief Executive, and others, for ignoring the plight of the hospital’s road infrastructure.

Furthermore, they lament the parked Drip Machines at the Assembly and Urban Roads Department premises—vehicles purchased by the previous administration that are no longer serving their purpose.
