Ashaiman Middle East Residents Demand Halt To Development Over Flooding.

Some residents of Ashaiman Middle East, particularly those living along Dr. Kudragbo Street, are calling on government and relevant authorities to intervene and halt an ongoing building development they claim is worsening flooding in the area.

The residents say the community did not experience flooding on the current scale until construction began on the disputed site.

According to them, the developer has constructed a fence wall around the property, which they allege has blocked a natural waterway and obstructed the free flow of stormwater into the drainage system.

They claim the blockage has resulted in floodwaters being diverted into their homes, destroying properties and causing significant hardship to residents whenever it rains.

The aggrieved residents further allege that the portion of land where the development is taking place was originally earmarked for a road but was subsequently sold to the developer.

They say officials from the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly have previously written inscriptions on the developer’s fence wall directing him to stop construction, but allege that the developer has continued with the project despite the directive.

The residents also claim they have petitioned relevant authorities on several occasions to intervene, but all to no avail. Some of the affected residents spoke to us.

The residents are therefore demanding immediate action from the appropriate authorities to address the alleged obstruction of the waterway and prevent further flooding in the community.

Spokesperson for the group, Mr. Divine Duho, has alleged that some officials may have been compromised, a situation he believes is contributing to the continued development despite complaints from residents.

He is appealing to the relevant authorities to urgently intervene before the situation worsens and residents lose more properties to flooding.
