Police Announce Road Closures, Deploy More Personnel Ahead Of NPP National Delegates Conference In Kumasi.

The Ghana Police Service has announced elaborate security and traffic arrangements ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Delegates Conference scheduled for 3rd October, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The conference, which is expected to attract thousands of delegates, party executives, and supporters from across the country, is one of the NPP’s major National events.
Speaking in an interview, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit and Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, said the Police Service has activated a comprehensive operational plan to ensure peace, security and free flow of traffic before, during and after the event.
According to him, the National police headquarters in Accra will deploy additional personnel to augment the Ashanti Regional Command.
“We are expecting a large number of people in Kumasi for this national event. The Inspector-General of Police and the national command are providing extra men and logistics to support us on the ground. Our focus is on security, traffic management and public safety,” DSP Ahianyo disclosed.
DSP Ahianyo announced that some major roads leading to and around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be temporarily closed or diverted.
Roads to be affected includes The Amakom road stretch to Calvary Methodist Church Road,The Unity Oil area to TI Ahmadiyya Senior High School (AMASS) area and Other adjoining roads close to the stadium enclave
He explained that the closures are necessary to create a secure perimeter around the venue, ease congestion and allow for the smooth movement of delegates.
To prevent gridlock, police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) officers will be stationed at vantage points across Kumasi to direct traffic and assist motorists.
DSP Ahianyo said alternative routes will be created for motorists who are not attending the programme, and urged drivers to adhere strictly to police directives.
He also called on residents and delegates to cooperate with the police, plan their movements early and avoid parking at unauthorized places around the stadium.
“We have put in adequate measures to ensure that while the conference goes on, normal life in Kumasi is not unduly disrupted. We seek the cooperation of everyone,” he added.
The Police PRO assured that security will be tight and that any attempt to disturb the peace will be dealt with according to law.
