Be Cautions, Power Doesn’t Last Forever – Kwabre East Mp Warns EOCO Over ‘Rampant’ Arrest Of NPP Members.

The Member of Parliament for Kwabre East Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Onyina Acheampong, has issued a stern warning to the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) over what he describes as the rampant arrest and intimidation of members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the lawmaker, the current trend where EOCO is arresting numerous NPP members and subjecting them to threats is unhealthy for Ghana’s democratic dispensation and must be checked.
“EOCO should be extra careful and watch out in their dealings, because power does not last forever. What goes around comes around,” he cautioned.
Hon. Onyina Acheampong was reacting to the recent arrest and detention of Lawyer Baffour Awuah, Member of Parliament for Manhyia North Constituency, by operatives of EOCO on alleged corruption-related charges.
The Kwabre East MP questioned the timing and modus operandi of EOCO, arguing that the institution appears to be on a deliberate mission to harass and silence leading figures of the NPP, especially former government appointees and sitting MPs.
He noted that while no one is above the law and he fully supports accountability, the process must be fair, transparent and devoid of political witch-hunting.
“We are not saying people should not be held accountable if they have done something wrong.
But arresting NPP members almost every week and threatening them is not good for national cohesion. EOCO should act as a professional state institution, not a tool for political persecution,” he added.
He further called on the leadership of the NPP, civil society organizations and the clergy to speak out against what he termed as selective justice, warning that if not checked, it could destabilize the peace the country is enjoying.
