Suspected Coconut Theft Sparks Violent Clash Between Old And New Estates In Anomabo

A tense and violent confrontation erupted between residents of the Old Town and New Estates in *Anomabo, in the Mfantseman Municipalityof central region, over allegations of coconut theft.

The incident began when a 23-year-old man, Uncle Kwame popularly known as _Pop Cann_, was accused of stealing coconuts.

He was reportedly subjected to severe punishment, including being burned with a pressing iron, by individuals from the New Estate.

According to eyewitness Bro Kwame Ebo a resident of Old Town, news of Uncle Kwame’s mistreatment reached the Old Estate youth, who rushed to the scene to intervene.

However, by the time the police arrived, the suspects—identified as Kwame Amoh, Gadafi, and Kata—had fled. Uncle Kwame, who sustained severe injuries, was taken to Anomabo Hospital for treatment.

The incident further escalated when enraged youth from the Old Estate retaliated, chasing the culprits with cutlasses.

While acknowledging that Uncle Kwame’s actions were wrong, members of the Old Estate community and they issues strong warning for estate youth to wait for them ahead of festival this week.

Youth Leader Mr. Kobina Ebo condemned the Estate residents for using such extreme and violent measures.

In an interview with Douglas Oyiboh Amponsah, Mr. Ebo criticized the recurring trend of vigilante justice in the area, citing previous incidents where suspected thieves were brutally beaten, butchered, or even killed.

He urged both communities to remain calm and allow the police to carry out a thorough investigation to hold those responsible for Uncle Kwame’s mistreatment accountable. He stressed that violent acts only worsen tensions and undermine peace in the community.

This clash highlights the urgent need for stronger law enforcement and community engagement to address the rising issue of vigilante justice in Anomabo.

Residents are hopeful that the police will step in swiftly to restore order and ensure justice is served.
