Refuse Crisis Hits Agona West Despite Cleanest Municipal Award

The Agona West Municipal Assembly — previously celebrated as the Best Cleanest Municipality in the Central Region for three consecutive years — is now battling a growing sanitation crisis as piles of refuse continue to take over several communities.

According to some Aggrieved Teachers the situation has deteriorated rapidly in recent weeks, with overflowing refuse dumps spreading unpleasant odors and posing serious health threats to households situated close to the sites. Community members fear the outbreak of diseases such as cholera, malaria, and respiratory infections due to the poor sanitary conditions.

Large heaps of uncollected waste have now become a daily sight in major parts of the municipality, leaving many questioning how the once most hygienic district has slipped into its current state.
