We Are Committed To Sensitizing The Public About Fulani Herdsmen To Prevent Stigma And Name-Calling – Yakubu Musah Barry

Yakubu Musah Barry, the General Secretary of the Tabital Pulaaku International (Ghana Branch), has expressed his leadership’s dedication to enhancing awareness among Ghanaians regarding the origins and activities of Fulani Herdsmen in Ghana.

 

This initiative aims to mitigate the persistent stigmatization and derogatory labeling faced by the Fulani community.

 

In an interview with the Press, Yakubu Musah Barry observed that some individuals within the country perceive Fulani Herdsmen negatively, a perspective he contested, attributing it to a lack of understanding about the Fulani people.

Furthermore, he stated that his organization is committed to increasing educational opportunities for Fulani Herdsmen, ensuring that each Fulani household has at least two educated members.

This effort is intended to improve their quality of life and foster greater societal acceptanc.Yakubu Musah Barry also addressed the ongoing association of Fulani Herdsmen with criminal activities, calling for an end to such assumptions.

He emphasized that not all offenders are of Fulani descent, as some individuals falsely assume the identity of Fulanis to commit crimes.

He assured that his office, in collaboration with the executives, is diligently working to identify and address these issues to eliminate the stigma and derogatory labeling.

Ahmed Abdul Mommen, the Bono Regional Chairman of the Fulani Association, expressed concern regarding the persistent decline in educational attainment among the Fulanis in the region.

However, he emphasized that this engagement will motivate them to intensify their educational campaigns, aiming to ensure that the Fulanis enroll in formal education, thereby enlightening them and improving their lives for a better future.
