MP Ayensu-Danquah Commends Government For Declaring Wednesday As National Fugu Day  

The Member of Parliament for Essikadu-Ketan, Hon. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has commended the Government for declaring Wednesday as National Fugu Day, describing the move as a significant step toward promoting Ghana’s cultural identity.

Delivering a statement on the floor of Parliament, she noted that the initiative will not only preserve Ghana’s rich traditions but also project the country’s heritage onto the global stage.

According to her, celebrating Fugu Day will encourage citizens to appreciate and proudly wear indigenous attire.

Hon. Ayensu-Danquah emphasized the historical and cultural importance of fugu, also known as batakari, tracing its origins to the Northern and Savannah regions.

She explained that the traditional attire has long been associated with the Dagomba, Mamprusi, and Gonja kingdoms, dating back to the 15th century.
