“If Not At Age 7, Our Children Can’t Get Access To School” – Afotom Residents Cry Out.

Residents of Afotom, a farming community in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, are crying out for help as their children are forced to wait until they’re 7 years old to access school due to the long distance to Bonsua.

The community has been living in total darkness since its establishment, with no electricity and limited access to water, forcing residents to trek miles for the basic necessity.

The situation has become so dire that almost all residents are evacuating the community, leaving behind a struggling few.
The lack of a school in the community means children have to walk long distances to access education, and even then, it’s a challenge.

“Our children can only go to school at the age of 7 because they have to walk to Bonsua,” said a resident. “It’s not easy, but what can we do?”
Poor road and lack of good health care is also their big challenge

The residents are appealing to the government and stakeholders to intervene and bring relief to the struggling community.

Meanwhile, the Odikro of the community, Nana Kwabena Owusu, disclosed that the leaders don’t recognize them, citing that they initiated some part of the rural electrification project but failed to complete it, leaving them without light.

He emphasized that Afotom community is not as small as it seems, and if not for the lack of social amenities, residents wouldn’t be evacuating.
