Buoho Market Women Reject Relocation Citing Health And Flood Risks.

Traders at Buoho in the Afigya Kwabre South Municipality have demonstrated against the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Patricia Pearl Ankrah, over plans to relocate them from their current trading area to a newly constructed market.

The traders, who deal mainly in food items such as meat and other consumables, have raised serious concerns about the condition of the new market, describing it as unsuitable for their line of business.

Central to their protest is the issue of poor sanitation, as they argue that the environment does not meet the required hygienic standards necessary for the sale of edible goods.

Another major concern is the presence of a toilet facility located directly behind the new market.
The traders claim this has resulted in persistent foul odour and an influx of flies, which could pose health risks to both vendors and customers.

Observations at the site by reporters confirmed sanitation challenges, including burst toilet pipes and unpleasant smells.

Additionally, the traders pointed out that the area is prone to flooding, noting that it becomes waterlogged whenever it rains. With the rainy season approaching, they fear the situation could worsen and negatively impact their businesses.

According to the traders, the MCE has issued a deadline of April 4, 2026, for them to vacate their current location, as the area is intended to be converted into a lorry terminal.

Despite this directive, the traders insist they will not relocate unless critical issues such as sanitation, drainage, and road access are properly addressed.
End.
