Sewua Hospital Remains Abandoned, Exacerbating Healthcare Gap.

Residents of Sewua in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region are making a passionate appeal to the government and the Ashanti Regional Minister to intervene urgently as the commissioned Sewua Government Hospital remains non-functional.

The health facility, inaugurated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government shortly before leaving office in 2025, has yet to be brought into active use.

Despite its inauguration over a year ago, the facility lacks basic utilities such as electricity and water, rendering it non-functional.
Medical equipment installed at the hospital remains untouched, with parts of the building gradually deteriorating.

A visit to the site by Sompa News revealed an abandoned facility, where expected healthcare activity has given way to silence, while vegetation continues to spread across the compound.

Residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the abandonment of the facility and are calling for urgent attention.

The Assembly Member for the Sewua Electoral Area, Prince Kwame Adutwum, said the circumstances surrounding the commissioning raised concerns from the outset.
“The day they came to commission the hospital, I, as the Assembly Member, was not aware.

He urged the government to take immediate steps to operationalize the facility, warning that its continued non-use is increasing pressure on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
