Suame Magazine Residents Block Road Over Dusty And Poor Interchange Project.

Residents and workers at Suame Magazine in Ashanti Region took to the streets to protest the stalled Suame Interchange project, blocking the Suame post office Road and setting lorry tyres ablaze.

The demonstrators, visibly angry, accuse Rengo Construction of abandoning the site without notice, leaving deep pits, dust pollution, and exposed road surfaces that endanger traders and motorists.

The project, announced in 2022, aimed to ease chronic traffic congestion and rehabilitate deteriorating road infrastructure in Suame, a key industrial hub and home to West Africa’s largest automotive spare parts market.

Despite initial works commencing in 2023, the project has faced delays, with local authorities citing funding challenges and coordination issues among contractors.

The protesters are demanding urgent action, stating that the dust is affecting their health and businesses.

“We are suffering. The dust is too much. Our shops are covered every day, and customers can’t come here,” a frustrated residents said.
