Tension At Gomoa Dampase As Ga And Gomoa Chiefs Clash Over Boundary. Dispute

Tensions are rising in Gomoa Dampaase in the Gomoa East District of Ghana’s Central Region, as traditional authorities and local groups call for urgent intervention to prevent a potential outbreak of violence over a boundary dispute.

Traditional leaders (Nananom) and the Asafo Group of Gomoa Nyanyano have appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to step in following claims by chiefs from Kokrobite in the Greater Accra Region, who assert ownership over the Dampaase township.

The dispute escalated after Kokrobite chiefs reportedly announced a ban on noise-making and included Dampaase among the communities under their jurisdiction.

The move has been strongly contested by authorities in Gomoa Nyanyano.

Speaking on the matter, the Sumankwaahene of Gomoa Nyanyano, Nana Banyin Osofo, firmly rejected the claims, insisting that Nyanyano remains the rightful custodian of the land.

He warned that failure to resolve the issue promptly could lead to serious conflict.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Gomoa Nyanyano Asafo Group, Asafohene Kuntun Blankson expressed concern over what he described as threats from Kokrobite.

He cautioned that if the IGP and the Minister for the Interior do not intervene swiftly, the Asafo Group may be compelled to respond, raising fears of possible clashes.
