Shift From Reactive To Proactive Disaster Management – Regional Minister Called On Nadmo Staff.

The Central Regional Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has launched a landmark three-day capacity building workshop for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors and their Deputies.

Held at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Cape Coast, the workshop targets over 80 participants.

It aims to sharpen disaster response skills amid rising climate risks and seasonal flooding in the region.

Speakers emphasized the workshop’s critical role in equipping leaders with modern tools for disaster preparedness. In an era of unpredictable weather patterns and urban growth, these directors serve as our frontline defenders.

At the open ceremony, Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin, urged staff in his welcome address to shift from reactive to proactive disaster management.

“Disaster management cannot afford to wait for floods or fires to strike before acting. Measures like early education and community engagement must be adopted to save lives and property.”

Mr. Kwesi Dawood, Central Regional NADMO Director, explained that the training aims to sharpen district-level responses to seasonal flooding.

He added that headquarters plans to introduce a new disaster management training school for anyone employed by NADMO.

The Director of Finance and Administration at NADMO Headquarters, Dr. Hajia Lutfua Saeed Jamal, applauded the Central Region for pioneering the workshop the first of its kind in the country.

This initiative sets a benchmark for others to follow.

She advised participants to apply the knowledge practically and share it with peers to strengthen the region.

End.
