Nananom And The Youth Fight Gold Mining In The Area During Goldbod Visit To Atuna.

Traditional leaders and the youth of ATUNA in the Jaman South Municipality are opposing attempts to undertake gold mining in Atuna and some selected communitys in the area.


‎Traditional leaders, residents, and the youth of ATUNA, a farming community in the Jaman South Municipality, are calling on the government and GoldBod to abort any attempt to mine gold in the area.

Speaking on behalf of the youth at a durbar, the Mmrantehene of ATUUNA, NANA AMANIAMPONG SALIFU, says some individuals claiming to be from the Goldbod and Ghana Geological Service are engaging communities in the area with the aim of conducting prospecting activities.

‎The youth say no form of mining whether prospecting, deep mining or any form of mining will be entertained in the area due to its enormous adverse effects.

‎Some residents say they cannot exchange their farmlands for mining because of the health challenges and other harmful effects associated with mining.
