Dawn Fire At Suame Magazine Zone 18 Kills Elderly Woman, Destroys Vehicles And Containers

An elderly woman was burnt beyond recognition and millions of cedis in property destroyed after a fire swept through Suame Magazine Zone 18 in the Ashanti region in the early hours of today around 1:00 AM.
The blaze broke out at dawn and quickly tore through the busy auto repair enclave, destroying 5 cars, 3 containers, and 4 car engines completely, according to workers who live and work in the area.
The elderly woman, believed to be in her old age, could not escape and was burnt to ashes beyond recognition.
Her death has sent shock and grief through the area because all the workers at the area came to meet her around.
Workers at Zone 18 say this is not the first time the area has experienced a fire outbreak.
They say the lack of a nearby fire station makes it difficult to contain fires, especially at night and in the early hours.
“This has created fear and panic, When fire breaks out here, we find it hard to curb it before it causes massive damage,” one worker said.
The affected workers are making a passionate appeal to the Ghana National Fire Service to provide them with one fire station within the zone 18 and provide them with fire tender to prevent future disasters.
Many of the victims say they have lost their livelihoods and are calling on authorities and benevolent individuals to come to their aid.
