PNC Condemns Threats By Some NPP Communicators, Calls For Swift Security Action.

The leadership of the People’s National Convention (PNC) has strongly condemned what it describes as dangerous and inflammatory comments made by some leaders and communicators of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning that such utterances could threaten the peace and stability of the country.
Speaking to the media in Kumasi, the National Chairman of the PNC, Samson Asaki Awingobit, called on the security agencies to take immediate action against any political figure whose comments have the tendency to incite violence or create fear and tension in the country.
According to him, Ghana’s democracy can only thrive when political leaders act responsibly and place the interest of the nation above partisan politics.
Mr. Awingobit noted that reckless political comments and threats must not be tolerated, regardless of which political party is involved.
He stressed that security agencies must remain neutral and ensure that the laws of the country are applied fairly to all persons.
The PNC Chairman further described recent attacks and criticisms by some members of the NPP against the current government as baseless and capable of creating unnecessary political tension in the country.
Drawing historical lessons from the 1994 Rwanda genocide, Mr. Awingobit cautioned political actors against the use of provocative language.
He recalled how hate speeches and threats broadcast on national media platforms in Rwanda eventually escalated into a devastating civil conflict that claimed thousands of lives.
He warned that Ghana must not allow political intolerance and irresponsible communication to destroy the country’s long-standing democratic reputation.
Mr. Awingobit therefore urged politicians, communicators, and supporters of all political parties to be measured in their public utterances and promote peace before, during, and after political activities.
Meanwhile the Ashanti Regional chairman Mr Abraham Kabah also had this to say after the meeting.
The PNC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, and democratic governance, while calling on Ghanaians to reject politics of hatred, intimidation, and violence.
