Teachers In High-Level Dialogue Promises Major Interventions To Address Educational Challenges.

The purpose of the gathering was to motivate educators for their invaluable service while also providing a platform to deliberate on pressing challenges affecting the education sector.

The meeting was hosted at the Saltpond Methodist Church and brought together a significant number of teachers, both male and female, together with officials from the Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Education Directorate, and other relevant stakeholders in the education ecosystem.

During the interactive session, teachers passionately articulated several challenges impeding effective teaching and learning.

Key among the concerns raised were the acute shortage of desks for pupils, which they described as urgent and adversely affecting classroom management and academic performance.

They also highlighted the severe staff deficit in various schools, a situation that continues to overburden the existing teachers and compromise instructional quality.

In addition, teachers drew attention to the absence of electricity in some schools, which has significantly limited the use of digital and electrical teaching tools such as computers and other instructional aids.

Others also raised transportation difficulties, explaining that many teachers reside far from their schools.

They therefore appealed for the provision of transport support, including tricycles (“Pragya”) stationed at key junctions to ease daily commuting challenges.

The Municipal Director of Education for Mfantseman Municipality, Mr. Ransford Appiah, also addressed the gathering.

He urged teachers to remain committed to their professional responsibilities and to ensure effective teaching and learning outcomes in their respective classrooms.

He emphasized that teachers carry the critical responsibility of shaping the future of students and should therefore remain focused on delivering quality education.

He further encouraged them to view administrative strictness not as punishment, but as corrective guidance aimed at improving educational standards.

He concluded by urging teachers to continue demonstrating dedication, discipline, and professionalism.

In an interview with Douglas Oyiboh Amponsah, the responding to the concerns, The Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah assured the teachers that the Assembly is committed to improving educational infrastructure and welfare.

He announced that metallic mono desks would soon be supplied to selected schools to help address the furniture deficit.

On the issue of electricity, he directed schools facing such challenges to formally engage the Electricity Company of Ghana for extension of power supply to their institutions.

He further reaffirmed his commitment to improving the working conditions of teachers in the municipality.

Addressing the issue of staff shortages, he noted that accommodation challenges remain a major contributing factor.

However, he disclosed that the government, under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, has initiated plans to construct residential facilities for teachers nationwide.

He indicated that implementation will commence once land acquisition and documentation processes are finalized.

In his closing remarks, the MCE encouraged teachers to remain resilient, patient, and committed to their duties, emphasizing that their role is indispensable in national development.

He urged them to continue giving their best in nurturing the next generation,
assuring them that their efforts are deeply valued and recognized.
