Benkasa Community Cry Over Galamsey Activities In The Area.

Residents and traditional leaders of Benkasa in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region are calling on the Government and the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to halt illegal mining activities in the Benkasa in the Berekum east of the Bono Region.
At a community engagement to address the emerging galamsey activities at Benkasa, some community leaders say unknown individuals have brought mining equipment into the area and are preparing to begin mining operations without any prior engagement with the community.
Nana Aning Konadu Mmuro benkasa Dikro calls on the government to intervene and ensure that, mining activity is not allowed in benkasa but if government wants it, it should be properly regulated to protect farmlands,water resources and other properties.
NANA ANSUH AFRAM the adehyiepanin of benkasa also expresses his concerns about the extensive damage the activities could cause to farmlands, water bodies and the health of the people in benkasa.
Residents in benkasa also says,they do not want to take the law into their own hands by confronting the miners at the various site in the area so they are therefore telling the government to act swiftly to address the situation before it escalates.
