Coffee Farmers At Kunsu-Barniekrom Appeal To Government To Regulate Coffee Production.

Coffee farmers at Kunsu-Barniekrom in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti Region have appealed to the Government of Ghana to regulate the country’s coffee sector, similar to the cocoa industry, and help secure reliable markets for their produce.
The farmers made the appeal during the official launch of the Barniekrom Coffee Farmers Association at Kunsu-Barniekrom.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Barniekrom Coffee Farmers Association, Mr. Isaac Amofa, expressed concern over the challenges confronting coffee farmers, particularly the lack of price regulation and ready markets for their produce.
He noted that while cocoa farmers benefit from government regulation, guaranteed pricing, and structured marketing through the cocoa sector, coffee farmers are left to depend on private buyers, making the business less profitable and discouraging production.
Mr. Amofa therefore called on the government to introduce policies that will regulate coffee production, establish a stable pricing system, and provide dependable buyers to improve the livelihoods of coffee farmers and encourage more people to venture into coffee cultivation.
Also addressing the gathering, the Assembly Member for the Barniekrom Electoral Area, Hon. Kingsley Asare, encouraged Ghanaian youth to embrace agriculture, describing farming as a profitable and dignified occupation.
He urged young people to take advantage of the vast opportunities in the agricultural sector instead of relying solely on white-collar jobs, stressing that farming remains one of the key drivers of economic growth and national development.
