Galamsey Forces Asiakwa Residents To Rely On Sachet Water

The Chief and people of Akyem Asiakwa, a farming community in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region, have made a desperate appeal to the government and other organizations to provide them with potable water.

According to them, access to clean water is severely limited, forcing residents to rely on sachet water for their domestic needs.

Access to clean water remains a significant challenge in Akyem Asiakwa due to the devastating effects of illegal mining, known as Galamsey, which has polluted their water sources.

As a result, residents rely on sachet water for household needs, a situation that has become unsustainable.

Akyem Asiakwa residents appealed when Meaningful Life International, a Non-Governmental Organization, drilled a borehole that will serve almost a third of the community.

However, residents say the lack of access to potable water has affected their daily lives and overall well-being.

They urge the government and stakeholders to intervene and provide a lasting solution to their water crisis.

Dr. Godwin Kofi Ahlijah, Founding President of Meaningful Life International, explained the rationale behind their gesture and appealed to the government to intervene and provide a lasting solution to end the Galamsey menace.

Okyeame Kawku Ansah, spokesperson for the Chief of Akyem Asiakwa, Daasebre Twum-Ampofo II, called on chiefs, stakeholders, and indigenes to help provide potable water for the community.
