Yiwabra Bridge Turns Death Trap, Cripples Economic And Social Life

Residents, farmers, traders, drivers, and schoolchildren are all affected by a dangerous situation at Yiwabra Nkwanta, where a deteriorating bridge has become a death trap.
The bridge connects Semreboi in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region to communities like Omanpe, Ohiamadwene, and Domerabra in the Western North Region.
Over the past few months, this bridge has posed serious safety risks, leaving many residents deeply concerned. Its worsening state has not only endangered lives but also crippled economic activities—especially for cocoa farmers who now struggle to transport their produce to market centers.
Our reporter Nana fynn in an interviews with some residents disclosed that the trauma associated with using the bridge is taking a toll on their mental health.
Many are struggling to move goods to market, resulting in dwindling incomes and a threat to their livelihoods.
Schoolchildren are also facing major setbacks.
During flooding, parents are forced to carry their children across the bridge to prevent accidents. Some pupils revealed that they hardly attend school anymore because of the bridge’s condition.
They fear that without urgent intervention, they will fall behind in their education.
Pregnant women in need of medical care are also affected, as they are unable to cross the bridge to access health facilities.
The community is, therefore, making a passionate appeal to the government to come to their rescue and fix the bridge before lives are lost.
