Fire Service Urges Public To Refrain From Attacking Firefighters.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched a week-long fire safety awareness campaign ahead of this year’s International Firefighters’ Day, beginning with a street float organised in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service.
As part of the campaign, DOII Paul Tawiah urged the public to desist from attacking firefighters during emergency operations.
In an interview with the media, DOII Tawiah of the Assin Fosu Municipal Fire Service Division condemned the growing hostility faced by personnel during rescue missions, describing such acts as dangerous and counterproductive.
He stressed the need for improved safety practices within communities, noting that the only fire tender stationed in Assin Fosu serves both Assin North and Assin South districts, with a limited capacity of 700 gallons of water.
Despite these challenges, firefighters continue to respond swiftly to emergencies. However, DOII Tawiah lamented that instead of supporting emergency efforts, some residents attack personnel and, in some cases, damage critical equipment.
He further advised the public to exercise caution in handling fire-related incidents and to seek professional assistance when necessary.
He also highlighted the poor state of roads in the area as a major operational challenge, calling on stakeholders to address the situation to ensure a more effective emergency response.
