Ghana Railway Workers Accuse GRDA Of Sidelining Them.

Workers of Ghana Railway Company Limited have accused the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) of sidelining them from railway operations and taking over responsibilities meant for the railway company.
Speaking during a press conference, the workers expressed frustration over what they described as the continuous exclusion of Ghana Railway Company Limited from operating trains in the country.
According to the workers, the Ghana Railway Development Authority was established through an Act of Parliament to oversee the development and regulation of railway infrastructure, while Ghana Railway Company Limited remains the institution mandated to operate railway services.
However, they alleged that the GRDA has now moved beyond its supervisory and developmental role and is directly operating trains, leaving many railway company workers without active duties.
The workers said GRDA has just taken only 40 people from the railway company leaving the large number whom they said the situation has created confusion within the railway sector and negatively affected staff of Ghana Railway Company Limited, many of whom have years of experience in railway operations.
They stressed that railway workers are ready and capable of handling train operations but are being denied the opportunity to perform their responsibilities.
The convener Mr. Henry Boakye Annan said the the challenges in the sector are been caused by the GRDA
Some of the workers also called for a clear separation of responsibilities between the two institutions to ensure smooth operations within the railway sector.
They further appealed to the government to revive and modernize the railway industry, rehabilitate abandoned rail lines, and invest in railway infrastructure to improve transportation across the country.
