Ekumfi District Grapples With Alarming Health Crisis Over 70% of Men, 30% Of Women Affected By “Hannia “Tuo” And Fibroids — Nurse Manager Lamented.

A stark health reality is unfolding in the Ekumfi District, as alarming figures reveal a widespread prevalence of debilitating conditions, particularly “Hannia “Tuo” and fibroids.
Mr.Ebenezer Frempong Asante the Nurse Manager in the Ekumfi Nakwa poly clinic,he noted that, the Ekumfi District is witnessing an unprecedented rise in cases of 70%men leaving with “Hanner Tuo” and 30% women with fibroids, a situation exacerbated by the lack of essential surgical equipment at local healthcare facilities.
Patients diagnosed with these conditions often require referral to the Saltpond hospital for treatment, adding further strain and delay in their medical care.
In response to this pressing issue, the Member of Parliament for the Ekumfi Constituency, Hon. Dr. Otheniel Ekow Kwainoo, is reportedly making efforts to alleviate the difficulties faced by his constituents.
Dr. Kwainoo is actively working towards finding solutions to tackle these prevalent diseases and restore the health and well-being of the people of Ekumfi.
Mr. Ebenezer Asante Frempon, he emphasized the importance of community awareness and proactive healthcare-seeking behaviors to combat the escalating health crisis in the district.
Mr Frempong added that ekumfi is most district they have witness Hannia and fibroid diseases since 4 days screening over 250 people they have examine them with such diseases so here’s appealing to people of Ekumfi to desist from too much hardworking interms of fishing and farm works.
The Doctor for ekumfi Nakwa poly clinic miss Dr Gifty Aba Donkor disclosed that, majority of Ekunfi people are living with hernia and fibroid, according to her, MP for Ekunfi has done well to sustain the disease from them.
Some are been screened and refer them to nearby hospital for checkup. According to her, he said this disease has destroyed many people’s life.
In and interview said, A recent health screening in Ekumfi, involving approximately 100 in ekumfi Otuam, Nakwa and individuals, revealed that a significant majority of the community members are living with conditions such as hernia, high blood pressure (hypertension), and fibroids .
Of those screened, 70% to 80% require further medical attention, with many needing surgery.
The affected population in Ekumfi spans a wide age range, from 10 to 60 years old .
While the search results do not specifically detail hernia prevalence in Ekumfi, it is listed as a common condition identified during the screening .
Hernias occur when an organ or fatty tissue pushes through a weak spot in a surrounding muscle or connective tissue called fascia.
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Hypertension was a significant finding among the Ekumfi residents screened .
Studies indicate a connection between untreated high blood pressure and an increased risk of developing uterine fibroids.
Furthermore, women with uterine fibroids are often found to have higher blood pressure levels, suggesting a potential cyclical relationship where fibroids can exacerbate hypertension, and vice versa .
Fibroids: Uterine fibroids are common, affecting up to 80% of women by age35- 50 . They are non-cancerous tumors that grow in or around the uterus.
While some women experience minimal symptoms, fibroids can lead to heavy menstrual bleeding, severe anemia, and high blood pressure, all of which can increase the risk of heart disease .
The search results highlight that hypertension may contribute to fibroid growth, creating a concerning cycle .
