Bats Takes Over Amanin CHPS Compound, Force Health Workers To Flee.

The Amanin CHPS compound in Offinso South has been abandoned after a large colony of bats invaded the facility, forcing nurses and doctors to flee and leaving thousands of residents without access to basic healthcare.
Health workers say the infestation made it impossible to continue delivering services. Bats roosted in the ceiling, walls, and consulting rooms, leaving droppings and a strong stench that contaminated the space.
Fearing disease and unsafe conditions, staff locked up the facility and relocated to Offinso.
“The place is no longer a clinic, it’s a bat colony,” one residents said.
Since the closure, residents have been forced to travel several kilometers to Offinso or Kumasi for even the most basic treatment.
For pregnant women, children, and the elderly, the journey is dangerous and often unaffordable.
Community members say several people have delayed seeking care or resorted to self-medication, worsening their conditions.
“It’s painful. Before, we could walk to the CHPS compound for malaria treatment or child welfare.
Now you have to hire a motorcycle, and if you don’t have money, you stay home and pray,” a community leader explained.
Again Amanin M/A Basic School, which runs from KG to Class 6, operates with only four teachers for all grades.
There is no teachers’ accommodation, so staff refuse postings to the community.
Parents say pupils often miss classes when the few teachers are unavailable.
The road linking Amanin to Offinso is also in a deplorable state. During the rainy season, it becomes nearly dangerous for our lives.
Residents say the bad road makes it harder for emergency vehicles and discourages professionals from accepting postings.
Community leaders are now appealing to the Offinso South Municipal Assembly, the Ghana Health Service, and the Ministry of Education to act immediately.
