Fibre Cuts Disrupt Network Services As Operators Urge Contractors And Landowners To Engage Before Construction.
Telecel Ghana say repeated fibre cuts have become a major challenge to their network services and are affecting the quality of service delivered to customers.
According to them, the cuts occur frequently and often disrupt services at the time repairs are being carried out, leaving users without connectivity.
Head of Foundation Sustainability and external communication at Telecel Ghana madam Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson revealed that contractors undertaking construction work on roads are among the main causes of the damage, as they often cut fibre lines while working on roads and other projects.
In view of this, they are urging government agencies and contractors to contact the telecel company anytime they plan construction work.
This will allow the operators to assist, guide the process, or relocate their cables so the lines are not affected.
Landlords and landowners who intend to develop their property have also been advised to engage the companies before starting work.
Madam Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, explained that fibre cables may be running through such areas, and early engagement can help prevent damage and avoid service disruptions.
The appeal was made during an engagement with journalists in the Ashanti Region.
She stressed that protecting fibre infrastructure requires cooperation from contractors, landowners, and the public to reduce outages and keep services stable for customers.
She also used the opportunity to highlight some of the company’s corporate social responsibilities.
Madam Rockson noted that beyond providing connectivity, the company continues to invest in education, health, and digital inclusion projects across communities.
She said initiatives such as supporting schools with digital tools, health outreach programs, and training for youth are part of their commitment to give back and ensure that communities benefit directly from the services they provide.
She added that maintaining reliable networks is central to those efforts, which is why preventing fibre cuts remains a top priority.
